Terms and conditions

1.    To be eligible school aged children must live OR go to school in the 2622 postcode area.

2.    While maximum word limits will be set for each category there will be no set minimum word count requirement.

3.    School Year categories and maximum word limits will be as follows:

Years K-2       200 words maximum  
Years 3-4        400 words maximum  
Years 5-6        800 words maximum  
Years 7-8        1000 words maximum  
Years 9-10      1500 words maximum
Years 11-12    2000 words maximum

4.    Each child may only submit one entry, there will be no entry fee, and a Parent/Guardian must sign the Registration Form (Attachment A).

5.    Two (2) copies of the writing piece, typed and printed on paper, must be submitted.

No colour, no borders, no clip art or other fancy formatting.

a.    Drawings or illustrations may be submitted with the entry but the judges will not take these into account when evaluating the literary merit of each entry.
b.    Each entry must display a Title and have a Cover Page (see Note 6).
c.    An electronic file of the story must be kept for later submission if the entry is selected for inclusion in the Writers Festival book. 

6.    The Cover Page of each entry will have the following information only: 
Entrant name, Email address, School, Class Category (eg. K-2), Title.

7.    Entries must be submitted to Braidwood Lions by 27 June 2024. 

8.    Pieces can be written on any subject, be in any genre (eg. narrative, persuasive, poetry, etc.)

9.    The work must be solely and wholly that of the entrant. Any work considered by the Judges to be plagiarised will be rejected.

10.    An Award ceremony will be held in Braidwood in November 2024.

11.    Cash Prizes will be awarded for First and Second place: 

a.    K-2  &  3-4        First $50       Second $30
b.    5-6                     First $100     Second $60
c.    7-8  &  9-10      First $150     Second $100
d.    11-12                 First $250    Second $150

12.    Judges will give Encouragement Awards in each category.

13.    Judges will not know the names of entrants during the judging process. Their decisions will be final and will not be open to review.

14.    At the Judge’s discretion nominated entrants will be offered mentoring by local authors.

15.    Braidwood Lions reserves the right to include entries in a published Book that will be offered for sale.
