Braidwood Lions Club members are very active around the local district either helping various groups directly or running projects to raise money to re-direct to needy causes.

The inaugural Braidwood Lions Young Writers Festival held in 2018 was one of the most challenging projects the Club had taken on and it was most successful at many levels

This exciting initiative was warmly embraced by the local community – over 270 entries were received from school aged children in the 2622 Post Code area, prominent local authors provided their time and expertise to review the entries and considerable financial support was provided by nearly 50 local business houses.

Very successful Festivals were then held in 2020 and 2022. Despite the impact of the 2019 summer bush fires and the emergence of COVID in both years nearly 300 entries were received.

The Festival aims to give young people living or going to school in our community (Braidwood, NSW,  2622) the opportunity to share their stories, poetry, essays or opinion pieces on any subject. This project should encourage young writers to develop their writing skills and will provide them an opportunity to interact with established authors who will judge their entries.

Eminent local author Jackie French has again agreed to be Festival Patron and a number of established, well-renowned authors have again agreed to judge entries. Braidwood Community Bank is the Festival underwriting sponsor with many local business supporting the Festival.

Again some cash prizes will be  awarded to the winning entries and a book containing the most outstanding entries will be published.

Net proceeds from Festival sponsorship or book sales will be distributed to needy causes in the Braidwood district.
