Cate Whittle

Spending five of her childhood years living in various houses on the border between England and Wales, before leaving the UK with her family to settle in Australia as a teenager, clearly left Cate Whittle with a passion for Welsh dragons appearing out of the mist and rain that she has never been able to lose, which is probably why so many of her stories end up with a dragon somewhere in them.

All grown up now, Cate lives in beautiful New South Wales, which is possibly significant, and shares her home amongst the gum trees with her husband and their youngest son, as well as a cat (aka evil ruler of the universe) and a whole host of native birds and animals (including, yes, water dragons).

It did not come as a surprise to those who know her when Cate’s first series for young readers, published by Omnibus Scholastic, was all about a dragon called Trouble and his feisty young friend, Georgia.

When not writing, which is one of her two favourite things to do on her own (the other is reading), Cate is a primary school teacher with a particular interest in fostering a love of words in her students, whether as readers or writers. Hobbies include pottering in the garden, walking in the rain, taking scenic photographs, and looking for the door to Narnia in old wardrobes. She would love to travel more, somewhere other than in her imagination, but never seems to get around to it.
